Miscellaneous work crews in the Keys
Flagler did provide for the religious needs of the work crews.
Note the heavy clothes, however it is November and beginning to cool
off.
The preliminary work was mostly done human labor.
One of my favorite human interest images.
Quarterboats continued to be used for bridge construction.
An idea of the size of a work crew. There were
82 numbered works camps at times throughout the Keys. The numbering generally
began with one on Key Largo and ended with 82 in Key West. Sometimes the
entire camp was moved and other times the workmen moved depending on the
skills required. |
